00:00:00: Hello, I'm Dr.
00:00:01: Martin Baxman.
00:00:02: as a fellow practitioner i want to talk To you today about what?
00:00:04: I believe is the single most important principle for achieving true excellence in our practices standardization.
00:00:10: We're going to explore how this one concept when You really understand and apply it can completely transform your practice into A model of efficiency And quality.
00:00:18: you know something that runs like a finely crafted Swiss watch.
00:00:21: So let's just start with a Really simple direct question When The phone Rings In Your Practice What Happens?
00:00:26: Do Know Exactly How It's Being Answered?
00:00:28: if your answer Is Well, it depends on who picks up.
00:00:31: Then you have an inconsistency and right there my colleagues is where the journey to excellence can stumble before its even really begun.
00:00:36: Alright so here's our roadmap.
00:00:38: we're gonna cover five key areas.
00:00:40: first will pinpoint The real enemy of excellence.
00:00:43: then We'll redefine what standardization actually means in a modern clinic.
00:00:47: after that?
00:00:47: Will break down this six pillars That make it so essential.
00:00:50: look at some real-world applications.
00:00:52: And then we'll finish with the ultimate vision for your practice.
00:00:55: let's dive into So.
00:00:56: part one, we're going to focus on the core problem.
00:00:58: We are all trying to solve which is hidden but very significant cost that inconsistency brings into your practice and frankly To your brand.
00:01:05: here it is The main point in consistency.
00:01:07: Is the number-one enemy of a high quality patient experience?
00:01:10: Just imagine this.
00:01:11: for second A potential new patient finds Your website.
00:01:14: It looks amazing modern professional.
00:01:15: you've got a friendly team photo.
00:01:17: They're sold But then they call And I get a team member who sounds stressed Disorganized an unhelpful.
00:01:21: In that one single moment, the entire brand promise you spent so much time in money crafting is just broken.
00:01:27: Standards are what prevent these kinds of careless and incredibly costing mistakes.
00:01:31: Now this brings us to a really common misconception One we have to challenge head on.
00:01:35: Standardization isn't about turning your highly skilled team into robots.
00:01:38: It's giving them powerful framework for consistent high quality work.
00:01:42: So many of us hear the word standards and immediately think it means work will be robotic.
00:01:46: And restrictive, but The reality is that complete opposite.
00:01:49: standardization provides security for your team.
00:01:51: It gives them clear guidelines which builds their confidence?
00:02:01: Okay, so now we're getting to the core logic of it all.
00:02:04: Why are standards so essential for a high-performing lean practice?
00:02:08: Well there are six key strategic reasons and I like to call them The Pillars Of Efficiency.
00:02:13: Here Are The Six Pillars.
00:02:14: First, Standards Make your workflows understandable For every single person on the team And that clarity.
00:02:20: well That directly leads To the second pillar Which is All About Eliminating The Need To Constantly Rethink Routine Situations.
00:02:26: Just think about this for a moment.
00:02:27: Constantly rethinking routine tasks is an absolutely massive waste of our most valuable resource, our mental energy.
00:02:33: When you have well-defined standards the routine parts of the practice can basically run on autopilot.
00:02:37: and what does that do?
00:02:38: It preserves your focus and your team's focus for the real outliers –the complex clinical challenges–that truly need full undivided attention.
00:02:45: And building on that, standards are what make excellence delegable.
00:02:48: That's a third pillar.
00:02:50: You cannot delegate what isn't defined.
00:02:52: The fourth is the incredible safety net they provide You know, simple checklists that make sure critical steps aren't forgotten especially on a busy day.
00:02:58: The fifth pillar standards give you ready-made solutions for all those recurring problems.
00:03:03: and All of this culminates in the sixth pillar true sustainable efficiency where the practice operates without predictable Swiss watch rhythm We're aiming for.
00:03:10: so we understand why.
00:03:12: now let's switch gears and move from strategy to execution.
00:03:15: What does this actually look like?
00:03:16: In the day today reality of your clinic?
00:03:17: Let's walk through a few concrete examples.
00:03:20: This here is a simple but really powerful tool that we use in my practice.
00:03:23: We call them the Baxman Keys, and they're designed to solve a common problem of clinical drift during treatment.
00:03:28: At every single checkup—no exceptions!
00:03:30: —we verify three key points The Class-I canine relationship The molar interdigitation And midline.
00:03:36: It's nonnegotiable standard that keeps EVERY SINGLE TREATMENT on THE MOST EFFICIENT PATH TO FINISHING.
00:03:40: Standardization can even apply technical errors.
00:03:42: Here is a common one A bracket comes loose.
00:03:45: My staff doesn't guess why They have a standard procedure.
00:03:47: They simply check where the composite Is.
00:03:49: If it still in the tooth we know what was failure in bracket preparation.
00:03:52: If it's on the bracket base, It was a failure in moisture control.
00:03:55: This simple diagnostic standard gives us an immediate actionable answer every single time — no guesswork!
00:04:00: And to make implementation even easier for my team and doctors I work with... ...I developed this cookbook concept—it is really just a table that outlines our core clinical standards.
00:04:09: It shows precisely which appliances….
00:04:10: …and which art wire sequences we use for specific clinical goals.
00:04:13: This removes all of the guess-work.
00:04:15: Think about as recipe for clinical success That allows any doctor implement a proven system right away without having reinvented wheel.
00:04:21: So this brings us to our final section, the ultimate vision.
00:04:25: When you truly commit to this level of standardization You're building a practice that isn't just busy but is genuinely productive highly predictable and frankly A lot less stressful for you And everyone on your team.
00:04:36: At the end of day, The goal is to shift from a state of constant reaction and problem-solving To one of proactive high level execution.
00:04:42: When you have a proven system for everything From how your phone has answered... ...to how you sequenced your archwires You simply get more done in less time And with whole lot less effort!
00:04:50: You did stay on the fast lane Moving smoothly towards goals.
00:04:53: So I'll leave you With this one final thought Take an honest look at your own operations At team and clinical outcomes.
00:05:00: Ask yourself Is my practice running with the precision, reliability and elegant efficiency of a Swiss watch?
00:05:06: If that answer is no or not yet I hope you can now see standardization as your path forward.
