Why Orthodontists Need to Learn How to Sell

Show notes

Selling in orthodontics is not about manipulation or pressure. It is about structured patient communication that creates clarity, trust, and a meaningful connection between treatment value, price, and what truly matters to the patient.

In this episode of the Lean Orthodontics Podcast, Dr. Martin Baxmann explains why important patient conversations should not be left to chance—and why a clear communication framework can actually make consultations more authentic.

00:01:08: practices improvise conversations

00:01:11: That should never be improvised.

00:01:13: we would never improvise a treatment protocol So why do it?

00:01:17: When money trust and long-term relationships are involved hope Is not a strategy feeling is NOT A

00:01:43: When a practitioner does not fully believe in the treatment The price or value The patient senses long before word is spoken.

00:01:51: That's

00:01:51: why structure actually creates authenticity.

00:01:55: A clear

00:01:55: conversational framework

00:01:57: removes insecurity.

00:01:59: It allows you to stay calm, confident and present.

00:02:03: it also allows you To observe reactions body language hesitation And objections in real time.

00:02:11: Objections are not a problem.

00:02:13: Objections belong In the room.

00:02:16: The worst thing You can do is let a patient leave with unspoken doubts.

00:02:41: once You Understand The Motivation your language must adapt.

00:02:45: same treatment completely different conversation.

00:02:49: Price

00:02:49: discussions fail because most practitioners talk about price, while the patient also talks about price.

00:02:56: That creates imbalance.

00:02:58: Your job is to hold focus on value While The Patient focuses On Cost.

00:03:03: One effective structure Is To Frame The Benefit State The Price Clearly And Then Reconnect The Price To The Patient's Personal Motivation.

00:03:12: Price Without Meaning Creates Resistance.

00:03:15: Price with meaning creates perspective.

00:03:18: Patients already come prepared.

00:03:21: They have searched online, heard opinions visited websites and made a conscious decision to show up.

00:03:27: At that point your task is not to convince the stranger.

00:03:31: Your tasks are not destroy trust And unfortunately, many practices do exactly that through poor atmosphere rushed conversations and uncoordinated teams.

00:03:43: Communication does not start in the consultation room.

00:03:46: it starts at reception.

00:03:49: It continues in the waiting area.

00:03:51: It shows how a team speaks about treatments internally.

00:03:55: If the team doesn't believe in value The patient will never believe it.

00:04:00: Authenticity must be lived Not advertised.

00:04:03: Reflection is the most neglected part of communication.

00:04:07: After conversations, Most practitioners move on immediately.

00:04:11: No analysis no learning no improvement.
